UMRAH
The Umrah or Lesser Pilgrimage is visiting of the Holy places of Mak`kah and Madina with a view to accomplish an individual pilgrimage. Umrah is not a obligation (Faraz) but a tradition which is almost compulsory for those who have the means. It is not confined to any set of time. It can be carried out at any time of the year, excluding the five days of Hajj.
The rites of Umrah are
The Ihram as for the Hajj before crossing any specific Meeqat. A declaration of intent to perform the pilgrimage.
The Tawaf or Circumambulation around the Ka`aba. It is an obligatory (Faraz) component of Umrah.
The Saee: The walk in procession, brisk at two spaces, between the hillocks of As-Safa and Al-Marwa. It is a duty (Wajib)
Shaving of Head of men symbolic cutting of hairs for ladies as the closing item of Umrah rites. Once this last rite has been accomplished, all restrictions are removed and the pilgrim can come out of the sacred state of Ihram. He can put on his usual dress and resume all normal functions.
